Text Features This text belonging to the navya-vyākaraṇa type is systematically treating the vibhakti-s or case endings in Sanskrit grammar. The sūtras of Pāṇini are frequently cited and expounded. Although throughout grammatical, the text makes part of the Navya-nyāya section of Indian philosophy. There is another text of the same title, different from this one, by Maunī Śrīkṛṣṇa Bhaṭṭa.

This MS covers the sections from the beginning to the tṛtīyāvivaraṇa only.

Manuscript Features

Fols. 162 and 195 are missing. There are very few corrections, which are made by the scribe himself. On the back of folio one the short title vibhaktyartha has been written in a modern hand. Above the foliation in the left-hand margin of each verso the abbreviation kā° vā has been written, which seems to hint to an alternative title of this text, such as *kāraka-vāda. This seems all the more probable, as there is another text called Vibhaktyarthanirṇaya by Maunī Śrīkṛṣṇa Bhaṭṭa, which goes also by the alternative title Kārakavāda (cf. NCC vol. IV p. 339).

bahuvidharūpaparigrahajagadabhināṭanam ihākāṃkṣan ||
svayam api naṭati sukutukī yas tasmai śaṃbhave stu namaḥ || 1 ||

dhruvo pāye karmehitaphalahitaḥ sādhakatamaḥ
sadādhāro bhīṣṭaḥ paraphalakabhāvena jagatāṃ ||
svataṃtraḥ karttāsi sphuṭavalayaśeṣaḥ prathamayā
suliṃgaṃ (!) khyātas tvaṃ viṣadaya vibhaktīr giriśa tāḥ || 2 ||

iha khalu sarveṣāṃ vibhaktyarthānāṃ bhagavaty anvaya iti vibhaktyartho nirūpyate tatra kārakākārakabhedāt sa dvedhā nanu kārakatvasyānugatasyāvena (!) na tena rūpeṇa vibhaktyarthatā kārakāṇāṃ prātisvikarūpeṇa tadarthatve dvedhā vibhāgo nupapannaḥ ||
